A catholic primary school in a residential neighborhood outgrew its one-city-block campus. A six-classroom building was needed to house the 7th and 8th graders. The site was located across the street from the main campus and the church. The design solution incorporated the gable vernacular of the surrounding residential neighborhood and the brick of the other school buildings. A 10’ diameter circular window is the main focal point which incorporates stain glass removed from a renovated window in the church. Floor-to-ceiling windows and simple brick massing create a strong contrast emphasizing the solid and void planes. Massive concrete columns and spandrel beam frame the main entrance and support the brick gable. Modest materials and a simple floor plan adhere to the low construction budget
