The J.S. Clark Leadership Academy is an addition and complete renovation to an existing charter school in Opelousas, La. The school, which is focused on
leadership as a theme and ethos, strives to be provide a learning environment which will serve as a “home away from home”. J.S. Clark Leadership
Academy currently houses grades 3 through 12 and offers a unique approach to education, in that grades 3 through 8 are located on the current campus,
and the high school is housed within the local community college, where classes are held and graduates obtain college credit upon graduation. The
school’s mission is to provide an exceptional education to all students through Project-Based Learning enhanced by a technology-rich environment where
there is a shared responsibility for school success among teachers, administrators, parents, community members, and students. This project will expand
the school by providing a new administration and cafeteria wing which will also connect the existing classroom building with the existing gymnasium.
The existing classroom building will be renovated, providing clustered collaboration space to facilitate their project based learning model. The existing
gymnasium will also be renovated with the master plan calling for a future Pre-K to 2nd grade wing to be constructed on the west side of the gymnasium.The
project construction will be orchestrated in three phases to allow continued operation of the school facilities.
