University of Louisiana at Lafayette Science Lab & Classroom Building
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette College of Science envisions a bold and visionary plan for a new interdisciplinary science and research facility, an inspiring, state-of-the-art space that will redefine how science is taught, discovered, and applied. This transformative facility will not only elevate academic and research capabilities but will also become the heart of a thriving, innovative scientific ecosystem that empowers students, faculty, and industry partners alike.
Purposefully designed to break down traditional departmental silos, the building will foster meaningful collaboration across scientific disciplines, from biology and chemistry to computer science, geosciences, mathematics, and beyond. It will feature immersive, technology-rich learning environments that bring theory to life and equip students with the tools, mindset, and hard and soft skills to solve real-world challenges. Through hands-on, experiential learning and flexible, future-ready classrooms and labs, students will gain the critical thinking, technical skills, and adaptability needed in today’s competitive and fast-evolving scientific landscape.
At its core, this facility is about connection: connecting disciplines, connecting students with mentors and industry leaders, and connecting departments to build a vibrant, collaborative scientific community. Designed with intention, it will offer dynamic spaces for faculty and staff to grow professionally, pursue groundbreaking research, and engage in high-impact collaborations. It will house innovation spaces, mentoring hubs, communal lounges, and modern offices that support a culture of excellence and shared discovery.
To bring this vision to life, the project will be delivered in two strategic phases. Phase I will establish the foundation—a fully functional core that includes essential instructional and research-rich spaces. Phase II will build upon this momentum, expanding the scientific platforms, realizing the full potential of the design.
This is more than a building—it’s an investment in the next generation of scientific leaders. It’s a place where knowledge is advanced, ideas are exchanged, and futures are shaped. With the support of visionary partners and stakeholders, the College of Sciences will continue to stand as an R1 institution at the forefront of interdisciplinary science education and research, both regionally and nationally.
