Michael F. Holly Receives AIA Louisiana’s Highest Honor

Holly & Smith Architects is proud to announce that Michael F. Holly, AIA, has been selected as the 2026 recipient of the AIA Louisiana Medal of Honor, the highest individual recognition presented by the American Institute of Architects Louisiana. The AIA Louisiana Board of Directors unanimously selected Michael for the award in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the profession of architecture.

The AIA Louisiana Medal of Honor is presented to an architect who has significantly advanced the profession through leadership, service, and lasting contributions that inspire fellow practitioners. Michael becomes the 35th recipient of this distinguished honor, joining a select group of architects whose careers have made a lasting impact on architecture in Louisiana.

Throughout his career, Michael has dedicated himself to creating architecture that enriches communities while preserving the unique history and character of Louisiana. His work spans educational, civic, healthcare, religious, and historic preservation projects that have strengthened communities across the state. Beyond his project work, he has remained committed to mentoring future architects, advancing the profession, and advocating for thoughtful, community-focused design.

“Michael Holly’s career embodies the highest ideals of the AIA,” said Pierre Theriot, AIA, Vice President and Design Director of Holly & Smith Architects. “His legacy is one of lasting impact; measured not only in buildings, but in stronger communities, a more ethical profession, and a future shaped by those he has inspired.”

Michael will be formally recognized during the AIA Louisiana Awards Dinner on October 2, 2026, at The Lodge at Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Everyone at Holly & Smith Architects extends our heartfelt congratulations to Michael on this remarkable achievement and thanks him for the vision, leadership, and dedication that continue to inspire our firm and the communities we serve.
