Jury Comments

D Vickers Hall

Adaptive Reuse/Renovation
Award of Commendation

“The jury recognized the dramatic transformation achieved in this project, seeing a building that moved from an otherwise unremarkable presence to one that establishes a stronger identity within the campus quadrangle.

The new skin and framing gestures create a clear architectural statement, while the contrast between metal and brick on the exterior and warmer wood elements within brings richness and material depth to the experience.

The jury especially appreciated the ambition of the intervention and the magnitude of the improvement, seeing a project that gives the building a renewed presence and purpose on campus.”

Sweet Magnolia

Single/Two-Family Residential
Award of Merit

“The jury was drawn to the spirit and playfulness of this project, recognizing how much was accomplished at a modest cost per square foot.

The design embraces bold moves, from the bifurcated plan to the expressive forms and playful details, with a confidence that feels authentic, creating a house that does not try to hide what it is, including the honest integration of the garage within the overall massing.

The jury felt the project’s energy, character, and ambition created a memorable and engaging architectural experience.”
